Makaliʻi Metrics was founded with a clear purpose: to give Hawaiʻi's farmers and land stewards access to soil analysis that actually reflects their land.

Our approach merges bio-centric sciences rooted in Hawaiian ancestral practices with modern agricultural analytics — providing testing results that are fast, accurate, and locally grounded.

Every test is calibrated for Hawaiʻi's unique volcanic soils, microclimates, and agricultural conditions — the factors that mainland labs routinely miss.

Our Story

“Built in Hawaiʻi.
Built for Hawaiʻi.”

Founded June 2022
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi

Makaliʻi Metrics was founded in June 2022 in Honolulu with a clear purpose: to give Hawaiʻi's farmers and land stewards access to soil analysis that actually reflects their land.

Our approach is built on bio-centric sciences rooted in Hawaiian ancestral practices — specifically the principles of aloha ʻāina, the deep commitment to land stewardship and regeneration. We merge those principles with modern agricultural analytics to provide testing results that are fast, accurate, and locally grounded.

Every test we run is calibrated for Hawaiʻi's unique volcanic soils, microclimates, and agricultural conditions — the factors that mainland labs routinely miss. Our goal is to empower ʻāina practitioners across the islands with the data they need to strengthen food security and build climate resilience.

Why We Exist

Hawaiʻi's Farmers
Deserve a Local Lab.

The Challenge

Hawaiʻi's farmers and land stewards face significant delays and costs when sending soil samples to mainland laboratories. Results take 3–4 weeks to return. Mainland testing protocols are designed for continental soil types — not the andisols and volcanic profiles unique to our islands. And every sample shipped off-island sends testing revenue out of the local economy.

The Solution

Makaliʻi Metrics is building a state-of-the-art soil testing facility that solves all three problems: advanced analytical equipment for fast turnaround, testing methods calibrated for Hawaiian volcanic soils, and an operation that keeps agricultural dollars circulating in the local economy. We also integrate traditional ecological knowledge into every report, giving farmers context no mainland lab can provide.
